"The power that made the body                        heals the body." - BJ Palmer

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at susan@susanmaddrey.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Nutritional Therapy is a personalized approach to health that uses nutrition science to promote optimal well-being. It involves evaluating an individual's health status and creating tailored dietary and lifestyle plans to support health goals and address specific concerns.

Functional Nutrition focuses on treating the whole person rather than isolated symptoms. It considers the interconnectedness of bodily systems and emphasizes identifying and addressing the root causes of health issues through personalized dietary and lifestyle interventions.

A Functional Clinical Assessment (FCA) involves palpation of specific reflex points along the body, a technique pioneered by chiropractors Dr. Frank Chapman, Dr. Terence Bennett, and Dr. D.A. Ridler (an osteopath). These reflex points are along the nerves connecting the central nervous system with various organs and glands, providing insight into areas that may need additional support.

During the assessment, you will be lying on a table while I apply gentle pressure to these reflex points. You’ll be asked to rate any tenderness on a scale from 0 (just pressure) to 10 (feeling like a deep bruise). A higher number indicates an increased need for nutrients and nurturing to bring that organ or gland back into balance.

For comfort and ease of assessment, it’s best to dress in soft, flexible clothing like leggings or sweats and a cotton t-shirt, so reflex points can be easily accessed through clothing.

Blood Chemistry Analysis involves interpreting standard blood tests to assess nutritional status and identify potential imbalances. By analyzing various biomarkers, practitioners can gain insights into organ function, nutrient deficiencies, and metabolic health, allowing for targeted nutritional and lifestyle recommendations.

The timeline for seeing results varies depending on individual health status and goals. Nutritional Therapy is not a quick fix; it requires time and consistency to allow the body to absorb nutrients and rejuvenate fully. Complex cases may require several months of dedicated effort to achieve optimal outcomes.

Yes, I offer virtual consultations to provide flexibility and convenience, allowing you to receive personalized guidance from the comfort of your home. In addition, I also perform Distance Muscle Testing (also known as Remote Muscle Testing), a method that allows me to assess your body's energetic priorities without needing to be physically present.

While this may seem unconventional, energetic connections are not bound by physical distance. Distance-based muscle testing and energy work have been used for centuries in holistic health practices, allowing practitioners to tune into the body’s innate intelligence and identify areas that need support. By applying these techniques, I can effectively assess nutritional priorities, supplement compatibility, and energetic imbalances in a virtual setting.

If you have questions about how this works or if virtual consultations are right for you, let’s connect!

Absolutely. Personalized plans can accommodate dietary preferences related to specific health concerns. As an FNTP trained in the Weston A. Price philosophy, my approach focuses on nutrient-dense whole foods, including high-quality meats, fish, eggs, butter, fats and organically grown produce. If you’re interested in transitioning to a holistic diet that includes animal products, this approach is a great fit; and if you prefer to follow a strict vegan or vegetarian diet, it may not align with my philosophy on deep health.

Functional ranges and optimal (or pathological) ranges serve different purposes when analyzing blood work.

  • Functional Ranges assess trends in health, identifying imbalances before they develop into disease. These ranges help pinpoint nutrient deficiencies, metabolic inefficiencies, and early signs of dysfunction, allowing for proactive support.
  • Optimal (or Pathological) Ranges are used in conventional medicine to diagnose disease. These ranges are broader and focus on identifying conditions that have already progressed to a clinical diagnosis.

In Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis, we look for patterns of imbalance rather than waiting for disease markers to appear, allowing for earlier intervention and a whole-body approach to wellness.
